Clermont Cancer Survivor to Return to Boston to Finish the Marathon
Friday, June 7, 2013
The money will be donated to the American Medical Athletic Association (AMAA), a cause that Geary is passionate about. The AMAA not only supports the race (it was AMAA members who voluntarily work the medical tents for the marathon and it was AMAA members who courageously cared for the injured persons), but also supports The Youth Fitness Campaign which works to fight and prevent youth obesity in the United States. Over 30 percent of children (6-11) are overweight, while 17 percent are obese. These children are projected to remain unhealthy in adulthood with an increased risk of heart disease and Type II diabetes. This non-profit organization works hard to prevent this epidemic by encouraging children to take on a healthy lifestyle through fun and motivating programs.
2013 was Geary's first time competing in the Boston Marathon, and he is excited to return for the 2014 race. Geary will proudly be wearing his ABB racing shirt as he crosses the finish line next year.
ABB employs nearly 300 in Lake Mary, FL.
